The Bund

The Bund is one of Shanghai’s most recognised symbols and one of the most popular tourist spots and stretches from the Baidu Bridge to Jinlin East Road. After extensive renovations to resurrect the traffic flow along the famous Bund, it now offers visitors a fantastic platform to see what now characterises Shanghai. The name Bund means embankment, very fitting being a river front landmark.

Wonder down the waterfront Bund and find a trendy restaurant to lounge in and watch the passers by. Take in the view of Pudong skyline, especially fantastic in the evening lights and see the boats glide on by.

Walking along the stretch of the Bund will introduce you to the fifty two buildings of varying architecture from historical to modern styles. The mix of buildings includes banks, offices, hotels and restaurants. Some to especially look out for include the HSBC Building, thought to be the grandest of them all, and the legendary Huangpu Park, known for its “No dogs or Chinese sign” fable.

Further attractions are the sculptures of Sail and Wind along with the Light of Huangpu River. Another is the sightseeing tunnel, a foot traffic tunnel underwater. If you are looking for something a bit more adventurous, head out on the Huangpu River Cruise where you can take a one, two or three hour cruises that leave from the Bund’s ferry port in the south.
