Croatia Ferry Transport Ferries

Due to the long, narrow shape of the country, much of Croatia's land is situated by the sea. As a result, boat and ferry travel has become an important means of transport to both local people and visiting tourists.

Car ferries operate throughout the year; servicing ports all the way long the coastline from Bari to Dubrovnik Croatia. Popular tourist destinations along the way include Zadar Croatia, Split Croatia and the Dalmatian Islands of Hvar, Korcula and Mljet.

Although ferry travel is a relatively comfortable and enjoyable way of getting around Croatia, the cost usually works out to be much higher than other modes of transport, like taking the bus for example.

If you are going to catch a ferry, another factor you should take into consideration is the frequency of the various services. Although passenger ferries and car ferries do operate throughout the year, they become much more infrequent outside of the peak tourist months of June, July and August.

Car ferries to and from the main islands get extremely busy during the summer and it is advisable to book your ticket well in advance. This can be done at the various ticket offices located in the resort centres. However, it is possible to buy both your car and passenger tickets at the port. Please bear in mind, though, that the port ticket office often opens as late as thirty minutes before departure times.
