The idea of a themed cruise is a fairly new concept and one that has proven remarkably popular. Golf cruises have only been around for a few years but they have taken off with a vengeance. Golf is a sport enjoyed world wide; cruises are a luxurious way of seeing the world. It was a logical progression to combine people's love of golf with a trip onboard a floating hotel and explore some courses further a field. And so the golf cruise was born.

When it comes to holidays, choosing a trip that ensures everyone is happy is not an easy thing. For a golf fanatic, it might seem perfect to play at some of the best golf courses in the world, and spend the rest of the time preparing for this. Many of the larger cruise ships running golf cruises are prepared to fully indulge you. They have driving ranges and putting greens on board as well as facilities for private lessons. They will organise the land transport to the courses, provide you with clubs, shoes and carts. However, for the non golfer, this could sound pretty horrendous. Luckily a golf cruise offers more than just golf, so even if it's not your thing, don't immediately dismiss a golf cruise. The ships are equipped with the usual cruise line facilities such as swimming pools and a cinema. There will also be non golf related land visits at each destination.

Golf cruises can be tailored to suit your personal needs in terms of length, price and itinerary. Scotland is home to some of the world's best quality and most well known golf courses, including Gleneagles, Carnoustie and Royal Dornoch. It is logical therefore, that many golf cruises operate around Scotland. If you are however, after something a little more exotic and have a bit more money to spend, there are cruise lines which give you the opportunity to sample courses on different islands, countries and even continents. Many of the luxurious cruise liners combine a world class cruise with championship golf. If 'teeing off' in Miami, Jamaica or Puerto Rico sounds good then a golf cruise could be just your thing.
