Perros Guirec (or Perroz Gireg in Breton) is on the Cote de Granit Rose (the Pink Granite Coast) on the northernmost part of Brittany's coastline. Pink granite is in evidence all along the coast from Trégastel to Bréhat, but it is in Perros Guirec that it has been eroded into formations that are out of this world, a sort of natural theme park.

The town of Perros Guirec itself is divided into two distinct parts: the upper town on the hill and the lower marina area. There is an efficient tourist office at 21 place de l'Hotel de Ville (02 96 23 21 15) in the upper town. If you are looking for a room in town, there is the Hotel Les Violettes at 19 rue du Calvaire (02 96 23 21 33) which has an old fashioned feel to it, an incredibly cheap restaurant, and rooms for under €30. The Bon Acceuil at 11 rue de Landerval (02 96 23 25 77) has rooms for €40 55 and a gourmet restaurant. Around the coast at Ploumanac'h, where the most impressive rock formations can be found, are the hotel St Guirec et de la Plage (02 96 91 40 89) with sea view rooms from €30 and decent menus in the restaurant, and the Hotel du Parc on the principal square with €40 50 rooms and seafood menus from €12.

The nearest train station is at Lannion, which has rail links on to Roscoff and Brest (via Morlaix), or eastwards to St Brieuc. Whilst Lannion town is set back from the coastline, a whole bay is named after it with one long beach from St Michel en Grève to Locquirec. Rather like Weston Super Mare you can walk over hundreds of metres of sand before finally reaching the sea at low tide. The nearest youth hostel to Perros Guirec is in Lannion, Les Korrigans, at 6 rue due 73e Territorial (02 96 37 91 28) between the station and town centre. Alternatively there is an 18th century inn, the Porte de France, at 5 rue Jean Savidan (02 96 46 54 81) with rooms from €30 40, but it does not have a restaurant of its own.
