To get the best from your golf holiday in Scotland we suggest you travel around a little more than you might be accustomed to on a typical golf break in the med. This is because we really feel that while you are in Scotland it would be a missed opportunity not to visit each of the famous courses and play each at least once.

Turnberry is on the west coast of Scotland near the town of Prestwick. The hotel is a 5 Star Edwardian Country House and both the hotel and course provide wonderful views of the Isle of Arran and Mull of Kintyre. The course at Turnberry has hosted three Open Championships and was recently described by Colin Montgomerie as 'the finest links course in the world'.

Carnoustie is on the east coast of Scotland and is thought by many to provide the biggest golfing challenge the country has to offer. Jean van der Velde would not disagree as this was the course where many of you will remember him blowing a four shot lead to lose the Open at the last hole in 1999.

Aberdeen is a short train journey from Carnoustie and if you have the time it is worth a journey up the coast to visit 'The Granite City'.

Having played two superb championship courses all steeped in the history of the game you may have thought Scotland has nothing more to offer. Think again. St Andrews is the home of golf and the Old Course has played host to some of the most magic moments in golfing history.

The Old Course itself is so prestigious and opportunities to play are so sought after that access is only available via a ballot for more info visit

If the ballot does not prove fruitful don't worry too much as St Andrews has a huge amount to offer elsewhere including the Jubilee Course and the Dukes Course. Away from the golf, visit the historic 'Old Course Hotel' which has wonderful vistas out to the courses and sea beyond.

For anyone interested in how golf began and how it became major industry that it is today, do not pass up the opportunity of a golfing holiday to Scotland.
