Naxos Accommodation Greece Greek Hotels

Naxos has a broad range of holiday accommodation from quality hotels housed in lovely old Venetian homes to cheap and cheerful pensions. Book well in advance to ensure you get a room in your preferred location at a price to suit your budget. If you arrive on the island without a reservation in high season you'll either have to take pot luck with the domatia owners who brandish their "rooms to let" signs at you as you disembark from the ferry or pop along to the tourist office in Naxos Town.

One of the most attractive hotels on the island is Chateau Zevgoli, an old Venetian in the Bourgo district of old Naxos Town at the base of the castle walls. The hotel is just 100 metres from the port and several of the rooms have sea views. All rooms open onto a central atrium with a lovely garden. Owner Despina Kitini has created a family feel to the place with traditional furnishings, locally woven curtains and tablecloths and old photographs. One of the best bedrooms has a private bougainvillea clad courtyard and there's a honeymoon suite with a canopy bed and a view of the Portara (the ancient gateway to Apollo's temple). Despina also owns four apartments in a 12th century kastro house, 100 metres from the hotel.

The town is awash with reasonably priced pensions, rooms to let and hotels of varying standards. Many of the hotels are clustered around Agios Georgios Beach on the southern outskirts of the town. The main beaches further south along the coast Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, Plaka and Kastraki are also flanked by various types of holiday accommodation.

To the north of the town you'll find Hotel Grotta which is in a peaceful hillside location with wonderful views of the sea and town. This is a good quality, family run hotel, just 50 metres from Grotta Beach. Facilities include air conditioning, satellite TV and a large indoor jacuzzi.

If you're seeking a tranquil spot this hotel is at a sufficiently safe distance from the frantic summertime activity of the harbour front but the Venetian Castle, Archaeological Museum, the Old Market, the Portara and the pebbly beach of Grotta are all within a short walking distance.

There are plenty of self catering apartments and villas to rent but check in advance what facilities are provided because sometimes the kitchens and equipment are extremely basic and not fit for much more than making a cup of heat or heating up a tin of beans.

Some apartments are attached to hotels so you can combine the freedom and space of your own apartment with the convenience of hotel facilities. The Summerland Holiday resort at Kastraki, 17 kilometres south of Naxos Town, is an ideal holiday spot for families who can enjoy an excellent range of on site facilities including two swimming pools, a children's pool and play area, table tennis, jacuzzi, barbecue area and restaurant. The complex consists of 12 studios (sleeping three people), three apartments which can accommodate four people and seven deluxe apartments which can sleep four or five. The resort is in a quiet location near Kastraki Beach.

The island has three well equipped campsites alongside the beaches of Agios Georgios, Agia Anna and Plaka. All of them have mini markets, restaurants, internet access, moped rental and laundries. The site owners send minibuses to the ferry port to round up potential customers as they disembark.
