Napili Bay, Maui

Napili Bay snorkeling Beach in Maui

Napili Bay has become a magnet when it comes to condos. This realization dawned in the beginning of the 70s when condos began shooting up literally overnight along the length of the coast. Today these old units are becoming excellent bargains to the shrewd traveler. The star of Maui's Napili Bay is the beach, which cuts right into the shoreline and protects sunbathers and beachcombers alike from the afternoon winds. The steeper gradient of the sand means that the waves that lap the shore leave it very quickly the result during high surf is an undertow. These are the perfect conditions for a well known Californian activity...Monastery Tag.

So what is this bizarre sounding activity? Basically you lie in the water at the surfs edge and wait for the force of the water to shoot you up the shore on a thin film of water and then take you back. It takes some mastering, but lookout for the pros and maybe they could give you a few pointers.

If you are thinking of doing a spot of snorkeling amongst the turtles, then the "Snorkel Shop" has gear to rent. Hungry? Then we recommend walking towards the sandy end of the bay and popping into the "Seahouse Restaurant and Bar" for a delightfully refreshing cocktail or why not try an early morning breakfast at the Gazebo.

Napili Bay is perfect for that quiet and affordable getaway!
