The time of year you decide to take your trip to Darjeeling will vastly affect the accommodation availability and prices. During the high season, usually October to June, it is advisable to book ahead of time, while in the low season, discounts can be had up to 50% in some cases.

Darjeeling Accommodation

Because of Darjeeling’s popularity you may be challenged to find good accommodation in the peak season. With its amazing scenery, marvellous trekking tracks, a Himalaya backdrop and famous tea gardens, it isn’t surprising this West Bengal town is a hit with the tourists. If you stay in one of Darjeeling’s hotels you will be pleasantly surprised at the quality of your stay as they tend to give international 5 star hotels a run for their money.

Budget hotels in this area don’t seem to be as meagre as other areas. In most cases, even budget accommodation has a warm, family orientated feel. The Snow Lion Homestay is one of these. Located on Gandhi Road and run by a Tibetan family, at this homestay you will be treated like an extension of their family while you experience the rich culture around you. Nearby are several restaurants and a taxi stand. You will no doubt find it hard to stray your eyes from the astonishing Kanchenzonga mountain range view from the building.

For another cheap option, try to get rooms at Andy’s Guesthouse or Hotel Tranquillity known for their comfortable rooms and great hospitality. For just a few more rupees you can enjoy the spectacular views and comfortable rooms at the Dekeling Hotel or if you are after luxury, a stay at the Elgin might be right up your alley. Keep in mind, as in most places, the more you pay, the more luxurious your stay.

When booking your stay, the best place to start is online. Here you will usually get great discounts and the ability to browse around. Your flexibility with dates is also an advantage. Otherwise, travel agents tend to be very helpful and will likely be able to help you book your activities while you are there such as a trip to Tiger Hill.
