Kerala Accommodation Guide to Kerala Hotels, Resorts Guest Houses

Some associate the accommodation of Kerala to that of Goa, largely in the sense that prices are generally higher than other states. Beach side areas are principally more expensive than more inland with a distinctive high season during the period from November to March being the predominant tourist season. Many opt for home stays as an alternative as a cheap accommodation alternative while they are usually cosier.

Kerala Accommodation

Finding accommodation has never been tricky with a wide variety of accommodation from beach huts to hotels, luxury resorts to guest houses. You will find that different areas are more expensive than others, so here we have split popular areas up to guide you to the accommodation in certain areas.

Kumarakom
Kumarakom is at the centre of the backwaters located on the Vembandad Lake front amongst the bird and wildlife. The Kumarakom Lake Resort and Backwater Ripples offer just some of the great stays of the region, making deciding which one that much harder!

Kovalam
Similar to beaches in Goa, Kovalam accommodation, even the ‘budget’ options seem a lot higher. Also prepare to pay double even these prices over Christmas and New Year. The Taj Green Cove Resort and The Travancore Heritage are good places to check out.

Varkala
This is a smaller and quieter version of Kovalam and many hotels and home stays have resorted to only opening during the tourist peak season. Another option is to travel inland where you will likely find more quiet accommodation. One caution is to make sure your rickshaw takes you to the correct place as commission based business is rife here. Some places worth checking out include the BlueWater Beach Resort and the Gateway Hotel Janardhanapuram Varkala.

Wayanad
Known for its coffee and spice plantations, Wayanad’s beauty will astound you. There are hotels scattered around this area that offer great value for money. Some of these include the Green Mount Homestay, the Valley View Avenue Homestay and the Sundara Mahal.

Kochi
Formally Cochin, Kochi is one of the states major cities of Kerala. It is known as the gateway to Kerala and has a range of accommodation options from budget hotels to the more luxurious 5 star hotels. Look into Sherly’s Homestay and the Casino Hotel on Willingdon Island.

Munnar
Munnar is one of Kerala’s favourite hill stations located in South Kerala. Start looking for your holiday accommodation at Cloud9 Resort with its numerous activates and B Six Holidays Resort with its tree house.
