Cheap Flights to Portugal

Finding a cheap flight to Portugal is becoming increasingly easy these days as an upsurge in the number of budget flight operators flying to Faro, Lisbon and Porto increases. This is particularly true of online flight operators, so make sure you shop around online and at the travel agents for cheap flights to Portugal. You can also keep an eye out for good deals by looking in the newspapers, especially the Sunday papers and magazines, as they sometimes advertise cheap flights in their travel sections or you may be able to collect vouchers to gain a discount, for example. Whatever your preferred method, shopping around will almost certainly lead to a better deal than just accepting the first fare you find.

Online budget flight operators are in a good position as they do not have the same overheads as high street travel agents and they are therefore able to save on rent, passing on this saving to their customers. This means that you are likely to save a substantial amount on the price of your flight to Portugal. However, there are a few tried and tested ruses to heighten your advantage when booking your flight online.

It is all in the timing. Book well in advance (you can usually book up to about six months ahead) and you will notice that the prices quoted are much cheaper than if you are booking during the month in which you wish to travel. This is a good idea if you have a fixed travel schedule and are able to choose your flights early. Also, choose flight times early in the morning or late in the evening, as these are less popular with travellers and so likely to be cheaper. If you do pick one of these early or late flights, remember to check what time you will arrive in Portugal. If arriving before usual inland transport links are open to continue your journey you should be prepared to either wait (take a good book) or take a taxi (make sure you have some cash). Later in the evening you may find you are getting hungry and that restaurants have stopped serving. Prepare for this eventuality by eating on the plane or taking some sandwiches with you.

Another reason budget flights to Portugal are cheaper is that they don't offer you a complimentary sandwich, gin and tonic or other such luxuries. It is up to you whether this is important or not. These days, however, the larger airlines are trying to compete by offering cheap returns to places like Faro and Lisbon, so book early to snap up good deals on flights and then sit back and enjoy the first glass of wine on your holiday.
