Lake Tahoe Ski Vacation skiing, scenery and gambling in one resort!

Advice on finding your perfect ski holiday

Unique is an overused word by travel agents attempting to sell the relative merits of resorts. We make no apology however for using the word when describing Lake Tahoe.

Providing the most beautiful scenery, Tahoe sits on the California/Nevada border. This means that gambling is legal! So besides its beauty, Tahoe has built itself a reputation for as a mini Vegas. Despite all this, the overall impression created by Lake Tahoe is neither that of beauty nor that of a gambler's paradise. Instead it is probably the fun atmosphere created by what is locally touted as the typical ‘Californian hospitality’.

Tahoe forms part of the aptly named ‘Heavenly’ ski region. This takes in twelve resorts and offers an unrivalled twenty seven thousand acres of piste. To access all this make sure you get a ‘Heavenly Ski Pass’. The Heavenly area has 168 kilometres of piste covered by snow cannons so the chances of getting bored on your Lake Tahoe ski vacation are slim to say the least!

However, If you are less ambitious you can opt to stay more local to Tahoe. The ‘Ski Lake Tahoe Area Pass’ still covers six resorts (the main six) and is a good size with thirty one ski lifts. And whichever slopes you choose, you will be provided with utterly stunning views of the lake and Nevada beyond.

The main area provides good skiing for all abilities, but is particularly strong for intermediate skiers who will have about forty five percent of all the slopes to choose from here.

The range of après ski, as you would imagine, is huge with all tastes catered for. Worth special mention is the area at South Lake Tahoe which is very glitzy and a whole lot of fun!

As stated in the introduction to the resort, Lake Tahoe is quite unique. This may be because of the views, the gambling, the hospitality or something as simple as the hot air balloons which float around the sky. Whatever the reason, Lake Tahoe is one of a kind.
