The low down on ski holidays to Italy

Ski holidays in Italy are amongst the best on the planet with beautiful resorts and chalet retreats, as well as one of the greatest mountain ranges in the world. Italy is a country synonymous with romanticism, art, fine food and beautiful architecture and it is these four factors contribute to its reputation as a great holiday destination.

As with many of the major European alpine countries, Italy offers a range of resorts, from quaint villages to bustling purpose built ‘ski towns’. We have picked the best resorts to provide you with an independent choice of those on offer.

Madesimo

If you are looking for a genuine taste of Italy, Mademiso is the resort for you! Its genuine Italian atmosphere and unpretentious charm will have you hooked before you even set foot on a ski lift!!

Far from being a huge resort, Madesimo is compact and offer snow sure conditions. The pistes are as visually stunning as they are well maintained and once you have sampled them, you may never try another ski resort again!

Madesimo is a quiet, uncluttered resort during the week, only to come to life at weekends when Milanese skiers visit and bring the party atmosphere out in the overseas holidaymakers.

Passo Tonale

There are two very good value for money options for a ski holiday in Italy, and Passo Tonale is one of them. It is snow sure, thanks to its high altitude location yet offers some of the sunniest skiing climates in Europe. Even in Summer the resort remains open thanks to the Presena glacier. While this village resort is quite small it offers a good range of genuine Italian bars and restaurants.

Sauze d’Oulx

This is the other good value resort in Italy. It is a much more sizeable resort than Passo Tonale, and lacks some of its intimacy, it is however a great option if you want a livelier ski holiday with après ski taking in pubs, bars and discos.

With over 100km of piste, it offers a good range of slopes for beginners right through to expert skiers, too.

Madonna di Campiglio

The most chic ski resort in Italy, Madonna di Campiglio is amongst the most exclusive resorts in Europe. More expensive than many of its neighbours, it stands out from the crowd because of its style, its traditional lively Italian atmosphere, its extensive varied ski area, but most of all it undoubtedly boasts the X factor!

Italy lacks the tradition in skiing that its neighbours France, Austria and Switzerland all have, however it has a range of resorts suitable for absolutely everybody, and with its Italian charm we strongly encourage you to try it sooner rather than later!
