Get the best for less with a ski holiday to Andorra

Andorra is a tiny country wedged between Spain and France. It has its own strong identity yet maintains many of the characteristics of both its nearest neighbours.

Ski holidays in Andorra are often perceived as a cheaper deal because of the tax benefits it offers while you are there. Prices however are gradually coming onto a similar level to other mainstream resorts in Europe. You may make a small saving by going on a skiing holiday in Andorra, but it will no longer save you hundreds of pounds.

There are three resorts in Andorra; the most popular are Pas de la Casa and Soldeu while Arinsal offers a cheaper option.

Soldeu

This is a relaxed resort which has a strong Catalan feel. Attractions have improved in recent years and for its size it boasts extremely good options both on the slopes and for après ski. The number of bars seems to increase every time we visit, and when combined with the range of restaurants and night clubs you will have no shortage of possibilities for evening activity.

The slopes have now been linked to Pas de la Casa after the construction of a modern lift system, and the ‘GrandValira’ lift pass enables access to a greatly enhanced skiing area, extending the choices available, especially for intermediate and advanced skiers.

Pas de la Casa

Known by locals simply as ‘Pas’, this is a purpose built resort on the French border of Andorra. It is renowned for its lively night life and is popular with younger groups of skiers. As you would expect from a purpose built resort it has an extensive lift system, good snow and a range of slopes catering for skiers of all standards.

It is at night however that Pas really kicks into action. The many colourful bars and nightclubs are usually jam packed with tourists and it is becoming increasingly renowned as one of the best resorts in Europe for après ski.

Arinsal

This resort is ideal for beginners and intermediate skiers as it has a very good range of confidence building slopes. The resort has developed from what was initially a small village, and while a relaxed village atmosphere has been maintained, there are also a number of restaurants and bars which give it a livelier edge. Arinsal provides pound for pound just about the best value for money skiing holiday in Europe.

Andorra is an interesting choice if you have been visiting France or Spain for a number of years, as it reflects these two countries but has its own quirky identity as well. Andorra ski holidays provide great value but are not as cheap as they were five to ten years ago.
