Norway is synonymous with snow and with the freezing cold, but people do not instantly associate it with ski holidays.

It is isolated from mainland Europe and until recently has not appeared in many of the high street ski holiday brochures available.

Recently however it has gained in popularity, and we summarise below the main resorts Norway has to offer. Those familiar with Norway may be surprised to see we have omitted some older established resorts, but we are confident that you will not be disappointed with some of the newer resorts we have chosen ahead of them!

Hemsedal is in an idyllic location and is in our opinion Norway's premiere ski destination. The ski area boasts one of the most consistently high snowfall levels in Europe. It is snow sure from early November right through until early May. The actual village of Hemsedal has an unhurried, relaxed atmosphere in a natural unspoilt location. One other benefit which is true throughout Norway is that it is less crowded than many resorts in mainland Europe with average lift queue of just 2 3 minutes.

Will be known to may of you as it hosted the 1994 Winter Olympics. Partly because of this, and partly because of its strong tradition in this area, Lillehammer not only offers great skiing but also an excellent range of winter sports activities for everyone. During the winter months Lillehammer is a truly magical place to be, offering a large selection of award winning restaurants and wide range of shops. The ski centre is actually located at Hafjell, 15 minutes away by ski bus. Hafjell is a mountain village with full amenities and ski in/out accommodation.

If you are someone who does not like to wait around, then Kvitfjell is the resort for you. We believe it is the least crowded ‘major’ resort in Europe. There are no queues for the lift system, spacious uncluttered slopes and ski in/out accommodation. It was initially built as the downhill arena for the 1994 Winter Olympics but is now a first class holiday destination.

If you are looking for a family ski holiday in Norway, stop looking now! Skeikampen is one of the most family friendly ski centres in Scandinavia and is especially ideal for younger children. The ski area is actually set in a snow bowl and is completely in tune with the resorts emphasis on comfort and safety. Because it provides the younger members of your group the best time possible, this means you can relax and enjoy the skiing at your leisure.

Norwegians argue that their country is the true home of skiing. Why not take a trip over there and decide if they are right?!
