Kauai's resorts are more expensive than some other forms of accommodation as they include amenities such as private beaches, beach chairs, swimming pools, tennis courts, discounted rates for golf courses, activity desks and kids' programs. The island's resorts would appeal to those who like having an "all-inclusive" vacation package and who enjoy the convenience of having everything they need on their doorstep.

The North Coast Resorts

Princeville Hotel (Book Now) - this opulent hotel is set in a stunning location on cliffs overlooking the ocean. The views are outstanding, whether over the mountains, the ocean or the beautiful grounds. The hotel is decorated with marble and chandeliers throughout, and rooms have every conceivable luxury including original paintings, bedside control panels and dimmer switches for the lights. The bathrooms have enormous bathtubs and liquid-crystal shower windows that can be switched from clear to opaque.There is access to Hideaways beach at the foot of the cliffs. Hanalei Bay Resort (Book Now) - enjoys the same magnificent views as the Princeville Hotel but at much more affordable rates. This resort has been built and decorated in a style that evokes old Hawaii and is spread out over 22 acres up the hill from the Princeville Hotel. The resort is set in a beautiful, tropical garden with two waterfalls and rooms have lanais (outside seating areas) overlooking Hanalei Bay. Hanalei Colony Resort - this beachfront resort covers five acres at Haena, the last outpost of civilization before reaching Kauai's wild and beautiful Na Pali coast. The roomy, self-contained units with private lanais and the reasonable rates make this resort popular with families. East Coast Resorts- Lihue

Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club (Book Now) - this is an expensive, top-class resort within easy access of the airport. It was recently refurbished after hurricane damage and the rooms are fully-equipped and comfortable. The resort overlooks the picturesque Kalapaki Beach, which is usually safe enough for swimming, windsurfing, boogie boarding and other water activities. The fantastic setting with lagoons and islands, one of which houses a zoo, and the extensive children's program appeals to families. Radisson Kauai Beach Resort (Book Now) - this beachfront resort is located just north of Lihue making it a good base for enjoying both south and north coast activities. Unfortunately the beach is not suitable for swimming but the Radisson recently had a freshwater pool built with a sand bottom and has three other pools including one kids' pool. East Coast Resorts - The Coconut Coast

Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort - this moderately-priced resort is great for kids with free children's activities and free meals for pre-teens in the restaurant when accompanied by a parent. It is next door to the Lydgate Beach Park which has a safe swimming area, a lifeguard, and restrooms. The rooms contain a fridge, coffee machine, iron and hair dryer. Kauai Beach Villas - this complex is located next to Nukolii Beach which is not suitable for swimming but is usually deserted. The self-contained units are managed by different rental agents so standards of accommodation and rates vary. Guests have access to the Radisson's pools as well as the one at the resort. In addition there are four tennis courts and a spa, and the resort is next door to Wailua Municipal Golf Course.

The Courtyard Kauai (Book Now) - this resort is on the oceanfront and has excellent facilities. The children's program and discounts for kids make it a top choice for families. The spacious rooms feature Hawaiian decor and lanais, some of which have ocean views. The resort is located on Waipouli Beach and is next door to the Coconut Marketplace which is a large shopping centre with a cinema. Poipu Resorts

Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort and Spa (Book Now) - only for the very well-heeled, this resort is one of the top luxury hotels in Hawaii. The 1920s plantation-style architecture and the comfortable elegance of the decor make this an appealing place to stay. The rooms are large with marble bathrooms, lanais, ocean views, a/c and fridges. The grounds are fantastic, laid out with gardens, islands, pools, lagoons and waterfalls. Sheraton (Book Now) - this elegantly-decorated member of Kauai's resorts has an old-island feel and is located on a great beach. There are three buildings to choose from depending on whether you would prefer to be based in tropical gardens, on the beachfront or on the grass overlooking ocean. Kiahuna Plantation (Book Now) - this is a complex of Kauai condos built and decorated in a plantation style and is within easy access of a beach, golf course, shopping and restaurants.
