Lanai Car Rental - the number of paved roads on this island are few and far between and most outings will require the use of a four-wheel-drive, especially if you are thinking of experiencing some of the more remote areas.

Car hire options are few, but the primary company on the island is Dollar Rent-A-Car,which can be found at 1036 Lanai Ave, Lanai City. This company provides car and four-wheel-drive vehicles - people can expect to pay anything from $60 to $124 (depending on the category of car chosen.)

Alternatively, instead of looking into car rental companies, visitors can opt to have a four hour four-wheel-drive adventure hosted by Adventure Lanai Ecocentre for a fairly reasonable price. The vehicles can alternatively be hired at a more expensive price and come with a number of extras such as towels, ice boxes, map and snorkel. In either event people should know that car rentals are expensive. We are not just talking about the rental price but the price of gas used to keep the vehicle running - four-wheel-drive vehicles do not give very good mileage.

It is advised that you only rent the four-wheel-drive on days you plan to explore the island. Lanai City does not require the use of a rental car since everything is quite comfortably in walking distance. Maps, information, and directions can all be found at the Lanai City Service found in the centre of the city. Guests of the Manele and Koele have access to an hourly shuttle service, which reduces the need for contacting any rental companies. Those who are not lucky to stay at these resorts can catch a taxi to Hulopoe Beach, and these can be arranged through the Lanai Plantation Store (808-565-7227.) It is possible to arrange pick up times with the drivers, alternatively one can simply stroll over to the resorts and call them.
