On Maui, fishing has its own place among the many adrenaline fuelled sports. Fisherman worldwide come to the island to battle it out with a number of sea giants including marlin, billfish, mahimahi, yellowfin tuna and ono, which are easily one of the fastest fish in the ocean. These species prefer the deep waters and as a result most of Maui's fishing involves a forty five minute boat ride from the island.A large proportion of the island's best charters depart form either Lahaina or Maalaea and can extend over periods of between four, six and eight hours - anything less does not warrant the time taken to reach the deep waters on the leeward side of the island. How much you can expect to pay for an excursion varies according to the length of the trip, the facilities on the vessel and of course on the owner's discretion.
