Cancun's Restaurants - Dinning Guides
Eating out in Mexico: Cancun - Other Places > Cozumel Restaurants - Puerto Vallarta Restaurants
Cancun restaurants far outnumber the hotels. In the Zona Hotelera you'll find a lot of international names such as Hard Rock Café, TGI Fridays and all the usual fast-food burger joints. Most hotels will have a couple of restaurants for guests but for anyone looking for a more authentic Mexican experience downtown, in Ciudad Cancun, is the place to go. Here you will find establishments offering everything from Chinese to Yucatecan food. Most places along the Avenida Tulum are aimed at tourists so prices may be a little high. For more reasonably priced food, head for the local markets, Mercado 28 on Avenida Sunyaxchen, and Mercado 23 which is just off Avenida Tulum. These markets both have restaurants frequented by locals so you will get a real Mexican dining experience.
Best for romance: Columbus Lobster Dinner Cruise
Undoubtedly one of the most romantic ways to spend your evening is on the Lobster Dinner Cruise. A tour around the lagoon on an old Columbus styles boat offers the perfect setting for a delicious lobster meal with fantastic views. There are two departures every evening depending on whether you want a sunset or moonlit meal. In winter sunset cruises leave at 4pm and moonlight cruises leave at 7pm; during the summer sunset departures are at 5pm and moonlight departures are at 8pm. All departures are from the Royal Mayan Marina and cost is $69 per person.
Best traditional: La Habichuela
This well-known family owned restaurant is not only one of the finest in Cancun but has also been said to be one of the best in the Yucatan region. Specializing in Yucatecan dishes and traditional Mexican cuisine, the excellent quality is reflected in the price. A lush tropical garden coupled with live jazz is an exquisite combination providing the perfect setting for a memorable evening.
Best for families: La Fisheria
This is good place to stop after a hard day of shopping. Overlooking the lagoon, this restaurant has a lot to offer patrons with its extensive range of seafood to suit all palates. For those who are not keen on seafood there is a good selection of western style meals like pizza and grilled chicken.
Best for partying: Mango Tango
Having developed a reputation for good food, live reggae and vibrant floor shows, Mango Tango has certainly become a popular night spot. All dishes have an exotic feel to them with tropical fruit ingredients such as coconut and, of course, mango accompanied by fresh seafood.
Best for vegetarians: 100% Natural
Decorated with plants and cool summer colours this place has a bright and breezy feel to compliment it's all natural menu. Everything served here is as fresh as it gets and there are plenty of options for vegetarians. The food is excellent quality for very reasonable prices and is a refreshing place to go for a healthy breakfast after a night out.
