Activities on Oahu - Main Attractions
There is an endless supply of exciting activities available on Oahu. Paradise is not only about relaxation and sun-worshiping; it should also include fun and entertainment. Oahu is renowned for these kinds of activities, whether you want high-actioned water sports or first class shopping. There are activities for every age group, for every budget and for every whim; all you have to do is know where to go!
If you are prepared to shop around you are likely to find most water activities at much lower prices then those quoted by the island's many activity companies. There are independent activity centres throughout Waikiki that sell every imaginable activity from water sports, to land-based tours and excursions, to luaus and visits to the Polynesian Cultural Center. Some of these centres are: Aloha Express (924-4030) at the Waikiki Circle Hotel, Magnum Tickets and Tours (923-7825) at 2134 Kalalaua Ave and Tours 4 Less (923-2211) located on Ka'iulani Ave.
Things to do all year round
The tourist image of Oahu is one with swaying palms, sandy beaches and fish filled turquoise waters. The opportunities for sea sports on Oahu are endless, from swimming to scuba diving, water skiing to the essentially "Hawaiian" tradition of surfing - your choices seem infinite. You can embark on an adventure under the water in a submarine (Atlantis Submarines 973-9811), sail the surface on a lavish dinner cruise (Dream Cruises 592-2000) or immerse yourself in the ocean with various water sports. These include: snorkelling (especially at Hanauma Bay) scuba diving, windsurfing, water skiing and parasailing. If you try only one water activity while on Oahu it should be surfing. Hawaii is after all the nation that invented surfing and it remains its greatest arena. Surfing lessons are readily available throughout Oahu where almost everyone manages to ride a wave within an hour. Another great way to enjoy yourself on the water is fishing.
If you are more of a land-lubber then Oahu offers an extensive range of land activities just for you. While away the afternoon on one of Oahu's public or resort golf courses or perhaps hike through Oahu's rainforests to see one of the island's splendid waterfalls. There are various hiking or walking tours available. The Hawaii Nature Center (955-0100) organizes hikes on most weekends, while Oahu Nature Tours (924-2473) runs hiking and bird watching excursions ranging from a sunrise walk up Diamond Head to a four-hour hike through the Ko'olau rainforests.
Now, if you prefer getting your thrills inside, don't despair! Oahu has a fabulous selection of boutiques, malls, restaurants and theatre shows to keep you well entertained throughout your stay.
With so many stimulating activities to keep you occupied, you will never have a boring day on Oahu.
