Orlando's Top Attractions & Sightseeing
Attractions - More in this Category > Disney World Orlando Florida > Orlando Science Center > Universal Studios Orlando Florida > Sea World Orlando FloridaOrlando's attractions will awe your kids and burn a hole in your pocket but there's nowhere else on earth that packs so much into such a compact area. Whether you're a budding astronaut, an adrenaline junkie or a fully committed fan of Spiderman, Orlando's high-octane activity and fantasy fever never ceases to amaze.
The vast Walt Disney World resort kicked things off back in 1971 when it first opened to the public and within two years more than 20 million tourists came to Florida to see it. Today it is still one of the area's main attractions with four major theme parks, two water parks, five 18-hole golf courses, four mini-golf courses and a giant shopping and entertainment plaza - it really is amusement on an unparalleled scale.
And if a visit to Disney doesn't dim your enthusiasm for activity there's a host of other Orlando attractions to choose from. Universal Studios and the awesome Islands of Adventure theme park are probably next on the list with plenty of film re-enactments for movie buffs and some of the best rides in Florida.
A range of smaller, but still gargantuan, theme parks and 'family fun' attractions pull in crowds of tourists in other parts of the county, from Sea World where you can go on a Polar expedition and dive with sharks, to Gatorland where you can see a female wrangler wrestle with alligators. Vast water parks such as Wet 'n' Wild, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon dot the area and give relief from the summer sun, while the Orlando
Science Center will satisfy inquisitive minds. The Holy Land Experience, a 'living biblical museum', is a little less impressive unless you're particularly devout, a biblical history buff or desperately in need of a 'Goliath Burger'.
Orlando also allows easy access to a number of major attractions in the surrounding area such as the Kennedy Space Center and Blue Spring State Park. The Kennedy Space Center is one of Florida's most popular attractions, home of NASA's space program and the only launch site on earth that you can tour. You can also see live launches, have lunch with an astronaut and go through the Astronaut Training Experience.
For more sedate Orlando attractions the Blue Spring State Park is an excellent place to see the curious manatee or sea cow in its natural habitat. The best time to see this elusive creature is between November and March when the manatees migrate here because of the warmer waters.
