Banff Ski Vacation - resort information and reviews

Banff is a medium-sized, lively resort in the Canadian Rockies, with a one and three quarter hour transfer time from Calgary airport. If you are considering taking a Banff ski vacation, rest assured that the resort is extremely good for all abilities and the slopes are split evenly so beginners, intermediates and experts all have an equal number of slopes to suit their standards. Beginners are also attracted to the resort because of the relatively small ski school, which some believe provides more of a personal touch with just forty instructors.

Banff has a good number of slopes, but a recent agreement has meant that one lift pass for the area also covers the slopes at Sunshine Village, Mount Norquay and Lake Louise. This opens the door to over seven thousand acres of piste, more than enough to keep the most committed skier happy.

Perhaps because this resort has grown organically over the years, the locals seem to have a huge pride in the slopes, and the snow is always extremely well-groomed, even in times of low snowfall.

Banff has thirty-two snow cannons, so even in the unlikely event that the clouds are not forthcoming, you can enjoy the sunshine in the knowledge that you will be able to ski and get a tan without any concerns.

A good way of determining the size of a resort in comparison to others is the number of lifts. Banff has twenty-nine lifts; quite a good number but nevertheless a reflection of the relatively small size of the resort.

The resort offers forty five restaurants, which provide a good variety of options. There are also plenty of bars for those looking to sample the Canadian nightlife. Unusually for a ski resort, Banff has its own four screen cinema which shows the latest movies as well as some old screen classics.

Accommodation is good, but you may have to work a little bit harder to find a good chalet. And because Banff falls within the Canadian National Park it is not unusual to see wild Elk wander across the slopes and even the occasional Moose shows its face.
